New law requiring fire-safe cigarettes kicks in in N.H.

CONCORD, N.H. — A law requiring cigarettes sold in New Hampshire be self-extinguishing kicks in Monday.

Self-extinguishing, or “fire-safe” cigarettes, are designed not to burn unless a smoker inhales. Supporters of fire-safe cigarettes say they will keep New Hampshire safer, since cigarettes are the number one cause of fire related deaths in the United states, according to the National Fire Protection Association. Cigarettes From Outside The State May Cost Smokers

TENNESSEE/KENTUCKY BORDER - Smokers could be breaking the law and not even know it. Saving money on those out-of-town smokes is actually a crime.

The state of Tennessee has been keeping a close eye on smokers. For smokers it’s all about saving money. For the state, it’s about keeping the money right here at home.

Virginia Gregory works at the Key Stop Store just across the border in Kentucky. She says Tennessee drivers very seldom cross into Kentucky just to buy a lottery ticket. Instead they are spending their money on something else. (more…)
