CONCORD, N.H. — A law requiring cigarettes sold in New Hampshire be self-extinguishing kicks in Monday.

Self-extinguishing, or “fire-safe” cigarettes, are designed not to burn unless a smoker inhales. Supporters of fire-safe cigarettes say they will keep New Hampshire safer, since cigarettes are the number one cause of fire related deaths in the United states, according to the National Fire Protection Association. TENNESSEE/KENTUCKY BORDER - Smokers could be breaking the law and not even know it. Saving money on those out-of-town smokes is actually a crime.

The state of Tennessee has been keeping a close eye on smokers. For smokers it’s all about saving money. For the state, it’s about keeping the money right here at home.
